Qualifications
- Area of Specialization: Applied linguistics (such as Global Englishes, Materials Development), English language education, and related areas of study
- Have a PhD in applied linguistics or the equivalent from an accredited institution
- Research and educational experience at the university level or equivalent
- The candidate should be able to understand the educational philosophy of the faculty and department, and to actively contribute to departmental, faculty, and university administrative responsibilities, including entrance examination duties and committee work.
- It is desirable that the candidate be able to teach courses and supervise graduate students in the Graduate Program.
- High level of English language proficiency
- Sufficient ability to perform assigned duties in Japanese
Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching five or more classes per week, including courses such as Communication Skills for Academic Purposes I/II, Academic Presentation Skills, Materials Development, Global Englishes, and Seminar. In addition to research and teaching, the candidate will also be expected to contribute to departmental, faculty, and university administrative duties, including entrance examination-related work and participation on various committees.
Terms of Employment
- Type of Employment and Retirement: Tenured position with no fixed term of appointment and eligibility for promotion until the mandatory retirement age of 70
- Teaching Assignment: Minimum of 5 classes (koma) per week
- Workdays: Minimum of 3 days per week
- Working Hours: Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work applies
- Salary: In accordance with the university's salary regulations. The following are model monthly salaries; actual annual salary will vary depending on professional experience duties, number of dependents, etc.
- Associate Professor (age 40): ?526,300/month
- Full-time Lecturer (age 30): ?383,500/month
- Bonuses: In accordance with the university's salary regulations
- Commuting Expenses: Reimbursed according to university regulations (with an upper limit)
- Allowances: Additional class allowance, entrance exam and other work-related allowances, dependent allowance, housing allowance, etc.

- Private office provided
- Individual research allowance provided (?425,000 per year)
- Opportunities for sabbatical and special research leave (application and approval required)
- Publication subsidies and other research grants available (application and approval required)

- Abstracts of Major Publications: Please provide a summary (approximately 800 characters in Japanese or 600 words in English) for each major work.
- Statement: Please describe your view on English as a lingua franca in the 21st century, and explain how this perspective would influence your teaching of students at our university. (Approximately one A4 page in English.)

Selection Process

– Interview conducted in both Japanese and English. Presentation of a 20-minute teaching demonstration in English. The interviews are scheduled to be held in early to mid-September. Please note that travel and accommodation expenses for the interview will be borne by the applicant.Additional documents may be requested during the selection process.
Notification of Results
Applicants will be notified of the result by email, once the selection process has been completed. All personal information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than the selection process.
