授業の目的?内容
/Course Objectives
The goal in the Writing Skills III course is to develop students’ writing and critical thinking abilities in English, progressing from production of shorter to longer academic texts, and from writing on familiar topics to writing about more complex and academic ones.
Overall Objectives
1. To provide an overview of what constitutes a ‘good’ essay
2. To help students understand various patterns of essay organization
3. To help students plan essays
4. To help students revise and edit their essays
5. To help students use a variety of sources
6. To help students develop computer literacy skills
7. To introduce the basics of referencing and creating a bibliography (MLA or APA styles)
This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar" and "writing" skills, as stated in DP 2.
Overall objectives are for them to acquire the basics of "written productive skills," as stated in the CP.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意
/Teaching method and Attention the course
Students will have learnt the skills of paragraph format & basic essay composition by the end of their first year of English writing study. This course will guide students in the skills of research paper composition from topic choice, through research techniques, to presentation of data, outline, peer review & final submission. The selected textbook provides a step-by-step approach to this process, with a clear focus in each chapter, to be supplemented by regular homework tasks.

Students will engage with all steps within the writing process, from brainstorming and outlining to drafting and editing.

This class will be delivered face to face on the university campus, with supplemental elements available online.

Students will be required to bring their textbook, phone, computer, paper and a pen.

Feedback will be given to students via written feedback, completed rubrics and score-sheets all of which are delivered via manaba.

/Before After Study
Independent online learning, pre and post class assignments will require 2-3 hours of commitment weekly.

Some activities will be conducted within the 100-minute class period.

Students will be required to preview classroom readings weekly (30 minutes).

Students will be required to complete outside of the classroom writing assignments weekly (1-2 hours).

Students will be required to complete homework after the completion of each class (1 hour).
